Business Tech 2025 predictions

1
Posted By sme-admin on January 7, 2025 Technology

Ruth Kennedy, CEO of TalkTalk Business, offers insightful predictions on the key technological advancements shaping the future. From the expansion of digital infrastructure and its impact on SMEs to the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud technology, Kennedy highlights the critical areas that will define business success in the coming years.

A shift towards digital infrastructure

“In today’s digital economy, businesses simply cannot reach their full potential without dependable, high-speed internet access.

“2024’s Autumn Budget focused on bolstering digital infrastructure, essential for keeping the UK competitive in the rapidly evolving global digital landscape. In 2025, prioritising investments in reliable, high-speed broadband will aim to resolve longstanding connectivity issues, particularly in rural areas. Reliable broadband will be crucial for maximising business productivity and connecting workplaces to the wider economic market.”

Long-term industrial strategy for SMEs

“2024’s Autumn Budget outlined a modern, long-term industrial strategy designed to support the growth of SMEs, recognising their pivotal role in the UK economy. By fostering a more favourable environment for these businesses to thrive, the Government aims to drive innovation, create jobs and boost overall economic resilience. In 2025, enhanced digital infrastructure will be a cornerstone of this strategy, providing SMEs with the tools they need to compete effectively in the digital age.”

The role of artificial intelligence (AI) and the cloud

“The transformative potential of AI and the cloud have will continue as we move into 2025. AI is already revolutionising the way organisations process and analyse data, leading to improved efficiency and more informed decision making. In the public sector, AI is making a significant impact, with applications such as the DVSA’s use of AI to analyse testing data, identify underperforming garages and enhance MOT services. By automating repetitive tasks, AI allows employees to concentrate on more strategic activities.

“The cloud is at the forefront of digital transformations, improving accessibility and fostering collaboration. The UK Pensions Regulator’s move to the cloud exemplifies how this technology can support flexible working and enhance service delivery.

“For the telecoms sector in 2025, the widespread adoption of cloud solutions will be instrumental in driving innovation and delivering smarter, more efficient services. “

Addressing risks and ensuring security

“It will be essential to address the associated risks of new technologies as we move into the new year. IT outages and cyberattacks are significant concerns that must be mitigated to ensure the seamless adoption of new technologies. The Government’s investment this year in advanced network solutions, such as Security Service Edge (SSE) and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) technologies, is a prudent step in this direction. These solutions provide robust security for remote data access and application usage, ensuring that sensitive information remains protected. “
