2026 health & wellbeing trends employers can’t ignore

As workplaces evolve, so too does employee wellbeing.

Benenden Health’s new Health and Wellbeing Trends 2026 guide highlights the trends shaping how employers support their workforce – and why acting now is crucial.

 Key trends and insights:

  • AI-Powered Wellness: 5.7% of UK ChatGPT conversations now relate to health, fitness, and self-care. By 2025, a third of Millennials and over a quarter of Gen Z are using AI and wearables to track sleep, steps, and blood pressure, creating personalised fitness, nutrition, and mental health plans. Employers can support safe use through workshops or newsletters.
  • Mental Fitness: With one in four UK adults experiencing mental health challenges annually, mental fitness is about more than wellbeing – it’s resilience, focus, and cognitive health. Exercise, mindfulness apps, and structured breaks can make a measurable difference at work.
  • Lifestyle Coaching: 85% of employees rank work-life balance as their top priority. Lifestyle coaching that integrates fitness, nutrition, and personal organisation can boost energy, motivation, and happiness, driving engagement across the workforce.
  • Social Wellness: Volunteering and community connection are proving impactful, with 53% of participants reporting increased motivation and better mental health. Companies offering flexible, structured volunteering opportunities can enhance belonging and engagement.
  • Life-Stage Inclusion: 71% of carers reduce hours or leave work due to obligations, and 80% of menopausal women report no workplace support. Recognising employees’ needs at all life stages fosters loyalty, engagement, and wellbeing.
  • Flexible Working: 80% of employees say flexibility improves quality of life, and three-quarters of UK workers would take a pay cut for a four-day week. Hybrid, compressed, and remote work are now expected – not optional.
  • Wearables & Smart Tech: 37% of UK adults use wearables to track heart rate, sleep, and stress. Integrated with AI and wellness apps, these devices are driving preventative health and smarter wellbeing decisions.

 Why it matters:
These trends aren’t just perks – they influence engagement, retention, and productivity. By embracing them, employers can future-proof wellbeing strategies while showing employees they truly care.

With 2026 around the corner, employee expectations are shifting fast. This is the moment for businesses to act on the latest health and wellbeing trends – or risk falling behind in engagement, productivity, and talent retention.
