Paralympic Gold Medallist Joins Loo Of The Year Awards As Ambassador

Chris Hunt Skelley What started as a keynote speaking appearance at the Loo of the Year Awards has evolved into a new ambassadorial partnership with Paralympic judoka Chris Hunt Skelley MBE PLY.

Chris, who has represented Great Britain on the world stage, was repeated World Number 1 in his sport and won Paralympic gold and bronze medals, has joined Loo of the Year Awards as they continue their work promoting accessibility, inclusion and high standards in washroom provision across the UK.

The partnership follows Chris’s appearance as keynote speaker at the Loo of the Year Awards in January, where his personal story, sporting achievements and commitment to breaking down barriers resonated strongly with attendees.

Alongside his success in elite sport, Chris also lives with coeliac disease, giving him a personal understanding of the importance of accessible, hygienic and well-maintained facilities. This mean Chris has a severe intolerance to gluten and if he accidentally consumes gluten it can cause severe pain and increase the need to use the toilet. These symptoms can last for days.

The Loo of the Year Awards is the UK’s leading independent washroom benchmarking scheme, carrying out independent assessments across a wide range of sectors to help organisations improve standards and enhance the experience of customers, visitors and staff.

“From the moment Chris joined us as our keynote speaker, it was clear that we shared many of the same values,” said Becky Wall BEM, Managing Director of Loo of the Year Awards.

“He understands the importance of accessibility, dignity and inclusion, and he shares our passion for encouraging the highest possible standards.

“What impressed us most was his genuine desire to make a difference. Becoming an ambassador felt like a natural next step and we’re delighted to welcome him as part of the team.”

Chris Hunt Skelley MBE said: “Earlier this year, I had the privilege of speaking at the Loo of the Year Awards and from the moment I met Becky and Charles, there was an immediate connection and a shared appreciation for the important work they are doing.

“When the opportunity arose to become an ambassador, it felt like a natural fit. The work being carried out by Loo of the Year Awards goes far beyond an annual awards ceremony.

“Raising awareness, improving standards and encouraging accessibility benefits everyone, and I’m looking forward to supporting that work in the months ahead.”

The announcement comes during a period of continued growth for Loo of the Year Awards. In the last 12 months, the organisation has secured trademark protection for both its name and logo, launched its podcast The Bog Cast and expanded its work promoting excellence in washroom provision across the UK. As an ambassador, Chris regularly talks about the Loo Of The Year Awards on his social media channels and attends events representing the team.

Entries for the 2026 Loo of the Year Awards have just closed across 63 categories celebrating excellence in away-from-home washroom facilities. Inspectors are now travelling up and down the UK undertaking unannounced visits to grade those entries. For more details visit www.loo.co.uk
