Be.EV halves cost of ultra-rapid EV charging

Around 40% of UK households lack off-street parking, leaving millions of drivers dependent on public charging and penalised by higher costs and a 20% VAT rate.

Be.EV, one of the UK’s fastest-growing ultra-rapid EV charging networks, is tackling this inequality with the launch of one of the UK’s cheapest ultra-rapid charging tariffs at 39p/kWh, setting a national industry benchmark for affordable public EV charging.

The new pricing model makes Be.EV one of the few charge point operators offering public charging cheaper than refuelling with petrol or diesel.

Drivers can now access ultra-rapid charging at Be.EV’s new low rate of 39p/kWh in two ways:

  1. Subscribers on The Mega plan (£9.99/month) benefit from the 39p/kWh rate at any time, while The Mini plan (£4.99/month) offers 49p/kWh. Both subscriptions are fully flexible and can be cancelled at any time, and are available exclusively via the Be.EV app
  2. For all other drivers, the same 39p/kWh rate is available during the off-peak 7pm to 7am window via the Be.EV app or RFID card at all ultra-rapid chargers. At 39p/kWh, charging an EV with Be.EV costs around 12p per mile – almost half the average cost of rapid and ultra-rapid public charging, which currently sits at 23p per mile (based on 76p/kWh PAYG prices and an average EV efficiency of 3.3 miles per kWh). That not only makes Be.EV’s ultra-rapid tariff cheaper than running a petrol or diesel car, but among the most affordable public charging options available nationwide.

Be.EV’s new tariff structure represents a direct challenge to what CEO Asif Ghafoor calls “an unequal, unfair public charging system that punishes millions of drivers without driveways.”

Ghafoor states, “For too long, EV charging in the UK has been built for the privileged few with a driveway. Those who rely on public charging – often people in flats, terraced housing, or busy urban centres – are forced to pay much more than those who can plug-in at home. That’s not just unfair, it’s a barrier to mass adoption.

Be.EV’s new 39p/kWh price point proves ultra-rapid charging can be cheaper than filling a petrol tank. It tears down one of the last excuses not to go electric. Drivers deserve a charging network that is fast, fair and future-proof – and we’re determined to deliver it.”

With more than 850 charge points already live and 1,000 in development nationwide, Be.EV is proving that ultra-rapid charging can be both affordable and accessible, giving every driver the freedom and flexibility to charge on their own terms, one charge at a time.
