South Bank venue names global fintech SumUp as official payment partner in landmark deal

Between The Bridges, the Thames-side events destination at the heart of London’s South Bank, and SumUp, the leading global financial technology company, have today announced a landmark partnership that will see SumUp become the venue’s official payment partner. From the 2026 season opening on 30 April, every card payment, POS transaction, and QR code order across the venue will be powered by SumUp technology.

The partnership brings together two organisations with a shared commitment to independent business. SumUp exists to level the playing field for businesses of all sizes – serving more than four million merchants across 37 markets worldwide. Between The Bridges is home to around 50 independent traders, food vendors, and creative entrepreneurs, making it a natural showcase for SumUp’s enterprise payment solutions in action.

As part of the agreement, SumUp will deploy its Solo card readers, point-of-sale systems, and QR code payment technology across the venue, enabling traders to accept payments contactlessly – whether at the monthly SoLo Craft Fair, during headline events, or on busy weeknight residencies. The technology is designed to help small businesses operate faster and more efficiently, with quick setup, next-day payouts, and no fixed costs. The deal also includes naming rights; the venue will be known as Between The Bridges Powered by SumUp.

The Between The Bridges deal follows SumUp’s appointment last year as official payment processor for the O2 – the world’s most visited live entertainment venue – underscoring the company’s rapid expansion into large-scale event and venue partnerships. The partnership reflects the company’s long-term investment in London’s independent and cultural scene, and further cements the Enterprise division’s position as a trusted payment partner for venues of every scale.

Pierre Lion, Global Director of Enterprise Sales at SumUp, said: “Between The Bridges is exactly the kind of space we built SumUp for – independent traders doing brilliant work, right in the heart of a world-class city. As their Official Payment Partner, we’re not just providing the technology behind every transaction; we’re backing the independent businesses and creative entrepreneurs that make London’s South Bank one of the most vibrant destinations in the country. This partnership is a statement of intent: SumUp is here to support the communities and venues where independent business thrives.”

Marcus Weedon, Co-Founder and Director of Between the Bridges : “We built Between the Bridges to be a proper South Bank institution: a place where brilliant traders, incredible artists and a great crowd all end up in the same place at the same time. SumUp shares that belief in what independent spaces and independent people can do. 2026 is going to be special”

SumUp is a leading global financial technology company driven by the purpose of levelling the playing field for businesses of all sizes, with the vision of a world where everyone can build a thriving business. Founded in 2012, SumUp is the financial partner for more than 4 million small merchants in 37 markets worldwide, helping them start, run and grow their business. Through its SuperApp, SumUp can provide merchants with a free business account, an online store, and an invoicing solution – as well as in-person and remote payment acceptance seamlessly integrated with SumUp’s card terminals and point-of-sale registers. SumUp is committed to leveraging its success to make the world a better place, donating 1% of its Solo revenue to support environmental causes and advocating for educational and entrepreneurial projects around the world. In 2023 SumUp was recognised as a Top Global Employer for inclusion by the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index.
