Cambridge Advance Online has announced that registrations are now open for its February intake, offering five business essentials courses from the University of Cambridge as part of its substantial online programme.

  • Students will learn from industry leaders, with each course led by a University of Cambridge academic and designed using the latest advancements in learning design theory and technology.

  • Business courses include Intercultural Communication for Global Business, ESG Risk Management and Creativity, Problem Solving and Design Thinking (recently winning an Honourable Mention at the 2024 Learning Impact Europe Awards).

  • Delivered entirely online for flexible learning, course agendas include a balanced mix of academic-led seminars, peer collaboration, and individual study. Tutor-guided learning is complemented by optional live sessions to support the weekly material.

All Business Essentials courses are CPD-certified, with students awarded a Certificate of Achievement from the University of Cambridge upon successful completion.

Intake starts 03 February 2025, with registration closing 27 January 2025. The Business Essentials courses cost between £2,050 to £2,150 and run for six to eight weeks, with six to eight hours commitment expected per week depending on the course.

Here’s an overview of each of these courses below, while you can view the entire course catalogue on Cambridge Advance Online’s website.

Future-proof your business by mastering sustainable practices

ESG Risk Management: Gain practical insights to help develop and implement an ESG risk management strategy in any organisation.

  • Led by Dr Bronwyn Claire, fellow at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Bronwyn supervises students in the Masters of Sustainability Leadership and is also Sustainable Finance Specialist within Ortec Finance’s Climate & ESG Solutions.

  • Also, Martin Massey who has over 30 years’ experience working for some of the leading global insurance and risk consulting firms including Swiss Re, AIG, Marsh, Aon and Willis. He is currently the Managing Director of OneRisk Consulting Ltd, providing enterprise risk management (ERM) consultancy services.

  • This course is for professionals looking to incorporate management of ESG risk in their day-to-day jobs. It is important that participants have a context of the industry to be able to relate to for the activities in this course and those interested should have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and roughly five years of work experience.

Climate Change for Decision-Makers: Challenges, Transformations, Strategies: Enabling decision-makers to gain a complete perspective of climate change issues, diagnose challenges within their context and develop positions or strategies to solve them.

  • Led by Professor Jorge Vinuales who founded the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Governance (C-EENRG). He has extensive experience advising governments, international organisations, companies and investors on strategic, policy and governance matters arising from the sustainability transition.

  • Suitable for senior and mid-career professionals, government officials, politicians, consultants, financial services professionals, and NGO staff seeking a broader, scientifically informed understanding of climate change and policy insights.

Boost your business skills with lessons in creativity and communication

Compelling Communication Skills: Master the arts of writing, presenting and storytelling to impress, influence and inspire.

  • Led by Simon Hall who runs his own business communications agency, Creative Warehouse and teaches writing, public speaking and storytelling skills at the University of Cambridge. He’s also an author with 11 business communication books published, and was previously a BBC TV and radio news correspondent.

  • And, Professor Thomas Roulet who is the Professor of Organisational Sociology and Leadership at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School. He has published extensively in top research outlets on social evaluations and relations, and has taught leadership strategy for more than ten years.

  • Intended for those seeking to improve communication skills including early-career professionals, mid-level managers, and senior leaders aiming to inspire teams and convey their vision effectively.

Creativity, Problem Solving and Design Thinking: Boost your creative skills and creative confidence with a structured approach to idea generation, exploration and development.

  • Led by Professor Nathan Crilly, Professor of Design, Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Nathan has 20 years’ experience in researching and teaching design, creativity and communication.

  • Suitable for those looking to enhance creative thinking, professionals in business development or strategy seeking innovative problem-solving methods, and those facing new challenges looking to develop/pitch original solutions.

  • The course recently won an Honourable Mention in the category of Advancing Teaching & Learning Innovation at the 2024 Learning Impact Europe Awards.

Intercultural Communication for Global Business: This interdisciplinary course examines how communication is affected by different values, attitudes and beliefs, in the context of our volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) post-pandemic environment.

  • Led by Kasia Lanucha, Intercultural Trainer and Coach at the Centre for Languages and Inter-communication at the University of Cambridge’s Department of Engineering.

  • Aimed at those working in multicultural organisations, expats seeking to improve workplace communication, and EDIB professionals looking to integrate intercultural communication into diversity and inclusion efforts.

While there are no academic requirements to participate, all students are required to have a level of spoken and written English sufficient to allow participation and success in the course. The organisation recommends an English Language level equivalent to an IELTS score of 7.
