UK School And College Students Are Back But Online Teaching, Learning And Working Will Continue To Grow – Says Statistics 24

The dashboard and analytics company ‘Statistics 24’ has grown considerably over the lockdown period as educational institutions and businesses needed a way to check online attendance and work taking place at home, but say the journey of online learning and working is really just beginning.

Back in 2016, the company was started by Jamie Smith and Neil King while they were working in education themselves. They found that there was a gap in the ability to check the attendance of online learning sessions and work that was taking place both inside and outside of the classroom, so they built Statistics 24 to report on the usage of Google Workspace (formally Google’s G Suite). Fast-forward 5 years and there are currently more than 150 million students, educators and school leaders around the world using Google Classroom for online teaching. Knowing which students have accessed materials and for how long is essential for education audits, spotting potential problems, and even applying for funding. More than 6 million businesses subscribe to ‘Google Workspace for Business’ and often need to record the time employees spend working remotely for timesheets and customer billing.

Statistics 24 provides unprecedented insights, dashboards and detailed analytics on the usage of all of the Google Workspace productivity tools. This includes Google Docs, Drive, Sheets, Slides, Forms and Google Classroom, but also video calls using Google Meet and Hangouts, which has been incredibly important for educators delivering online lessons and for businesses conducting remote meetings and consultations.

Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Neil King said:
“What started as a way to audit time spent using G Suite for quality reports and funding purposes has grown in functionality and is being used in ways we never envisioned. It’s the feedback and feature suggestions from our users that has driven Statistics 24 forward to become the unique and powerful tool it is today both inside and outside of the classroom. The closure of campuses and business premises is temporary, but now that more students, staff and business leaders have experienced first-hand the benefits of being able to teach and work remotely, many of these benefits will be here to stay. Students will need to experience and master remote working for their future in the digital workplace. An ability to operate effectively from any location is a requirement for success in the world we are in.”

Neil went on to say:
“The benefits to the environment of working and holding video meetings from home are clear. Not only does commuting waste huge amounts of time, but travel creates an enormous carbon footprint. The additional costs to maintain office buildings, clean them, heat and light them etc. are costs that businesses have to either pass on to customers or take into consideration when calculating employee wages. Saving that money could increase wages which boosts loyalty and attracts more experienced staff, or could lower prices making the business more competitive. Allowing employees to work remotely can widen your potential workforce to a much bigger pool of skilled personnel from anywhere in the country or even worldwide without them having to relocate. The mental well-being of staff should also be considered. Spending more time with family is a bonus, it can be less stressful and there can be fewer interruptions which can lead to higher productivity. Statistics 24 can help monitor the amount of work taking place at home for both business and education.”

Leeds City College was an early adopter of Statistics 24, and Steven Hope, Head of Independent Learning, commented:
“I am not surprised that Statistics 24 is becoming vital for education in these times of more remote learning due to the pandemic. S24 has been vital for us as a tool to show learning using the suite of Google tools we use at top level, but also more granularly. For us, Statistics 24 has been a vital cog in our reporting wheel for learning since 2016.”

C-Learning Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of Statistics 24, Jamie Smith stated:
“Statistics 24 was literally built by educators for educators. When we created it, Neil and myself were both working in education and, having been part of a digital transformation where Google for Education technology had transformed learning for the better, we recognised a need to add something that would amplify the impact even more. The ability for teachers to stay in control in an online learning environment matters just as the ability to direct matters to any coach. There was also a need for those who work in quality or the funding side of education to be able to demonstrate that students were actively present in an online learning space, and to have detailed analysis on that activity. Statistics 24 enables that and we are immensely proud to be part of something that is making life better for educators across the world. The foundations of Statistics 24 were built on listening to what matters to educators, and it’s continuing to listen to the experts in education that will also build its future.”
