Loo Of The Year Awards Invited To Speak At Major International Industry Event

Loo of the Year Awards, the UK’s leading independent washroom benchmarking scheme, has been invited to share its expertise at Interclean Amsterdam, the world’s largest professional cleaning and hygiene exhibition, with Managing Director Becky Wall BEM speaking on behalf of the organisation.

Held at RAI Amsterdam, the event attracts cleaning, hygiene and facilities management professionals from across the globe and is widely regarded as one of the sector’s most influential gatherings.

Becky was invited to present by Interclean Show Director Robert Stelling, following discussions about the role washroom standards play in customer experience, accessibility and hygiene.

Speaking on Interclean’s Health & Hygiene Stage, Becky shared insights into how high-quality washroom facilities can improve customer experience, support staff wellbeing and raise standards across organisations.

Her presentation highlighted the work of the Loo of the Year Awards, the importance of accessibility and inclusivity, and the role washroom standards play in shaping visitor perceptions of businesses and public spaces.

“Loo of the Year Awards is a vital programme because its purpose is not only to host an annual awards ceremony, it’s a year-round agenda focused on monitoring, advising and driving up standards of public washroom provision,” said Michelle Marshall, Publisher of European Cleaning Journal.

“Becky is the perfect ambassador for the programme because she is genuinely passionate about its work. Her experience and understanding of the challenges facing the industry meant her presentation resonated well with visitors”.

Founded in 1987, the Loo of the Year Awards assesses facilities against 101 criteria including cleanliness, décor, signage, accessibility and customer care. Through independent, unannounced inspections, the scheme continues to champion excellence in away-from-home washroom facilities across the UK.

Becky’s presentation generated significant interest from delegates attending the event, including facilities management professionals from the Netherlands and representatives from Barbados, who were keen to learn more about the Loo of the Year Awards model and how similar approaches could support standards in their own markets.

“To be invited to speak at Interclean Amsterdam was a real honour and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work of the Loo of the Year Awards to an international audience,” said Becky Wall BEM.

“The event brought together some of the most influential voices from across the cleaning and hygiene sector, and it was encouraging to see such interest in the work we are doing in the UK.

“There was a genuine appetite to discuss how high standards in washroom provision can improve customer experience, accessibility and wellbeing. The conversations we had during and after the presentation demonstrated that these issues are relevant far beyond the UK.”

While the immediate focus remains on continuing to grow participation across the UK, the response received at Interclean Amsterdam has highlighted increasing interest in washroom benchmarking, accessibility and customer experience.

In the last 12 months, Loo of the Year secured trademark protection for both its name and logo, reinforcing its position as the UK’s leading independent washroom benchmarking scheme. The team has also expanded its industry engagement through new partnerships, the launch of its podcast The Bog Cast, and continued work to promote higher standards across the sector.

Entries are now open across 63 categories celebrating excellence in away-from-home washroom facilities. For more information, visit www.loo.co.uk
