Why Digital Excellence is key to transforming Business Culture

Posted By sme-admin on July 15, 2025 Technology

In 2012, Raj Vattikuti, Executive Chairman, founded Altimetrik and embarked on a mission to reshape the digital landscape with a pioneering vision: to create a world where digital businesses flourish through a blend of technology, data, and, most importantly, people. At the core of Altimetrik’s ethos is the profound belief that a true digital business is inherently people-centred, where innovative individuals are the principal agents of change.

“Leaders today, especially in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services, are confronted with a dual challenge: to integrate cutting-edge technology while cultivating a culture that prioritises talent development and collaborative effort. Our digital business methodology does more than just address these problem statements—it revolutionises business’s approach to solutions by placing people at the heart of every strategy.

In this article, we will discover how leaders can employ this holistic approach to not only cope with but also lead in the digital era across global markets. This narrative is not merely about adopting new technologies; it is about transforming organisational cultures to leverage the collective cognitive potential of their teams, thereby creating impactful digital enterprises that are as human as they are innovative.

A Cultural Shift

A successful digital business hinges fundamentally on the culture within the organisation, beginning with the critical question: what exact problem are we trying to solve?

Leaders have a duty to foster an environment that emphasises collaboration and agility, with a sharp focus on achieving specific, business-oriented outcomes. By nurturing this mindset and applying it through effective methodologies, your technology and data resources can integrate and function cohesively, rather than operating in silos.

Retention, recruitment and continuous learning

In working to foster an environment of collaboration and agility, attracting and retaining the right talent is crucial. This requires a fine balance between recruiting individuals who possess technical proficiency as well as a deep understanding of broader business objectives. In an environment where volatility, uncertainty and change is the only constants, whether in technology, data, or personnel, a people-centric approach is essential.

A culture of continuous learning is key to staying competitive. Take, for example, one such initiative that helps our clients and partners ensure a smooth transition on their journey to becoming a digital business. The Digital Business Academy ensures rapid and consistent adoption of new technologies and methodologies at scale. It goes beyond conventional training programmes but rather empowers organisations to embark on a journey guided by the principles of our Digital Business Methodology (DBM), facilitating their evolution into a fully integrated Digital Business. It is not just about imparting knowledge, but about cultivating a community of digital practitioners and steering the business’s future direction. This initiative helps our clients to internalise a holistic digital approach and ensure a smooth transition on their journey to becoming a digital business.

The Digital Business Academy ensures rapid and consistent adoption of new technologies and methodologies at scale. It goes beyond conventional training programmes but rather empowers organisations to embark on a journey guided by the principles of our Digital Business Methodology (DBM), facilitating their transition into a fully integrated Digital Business. It is not just about imparting knowledge, but about cultivating a community of digital practitioners and steering the business’s future direction.

Financial impact

All of the benefits described above will have a sustainable financial impact if implemented correctly. Both the culture you instil and the people within it contribute towards stronger revenue growth and higher customer satisfaction. These outcomes occur when you deliver exceptional experiences in a more agile, responsive manner to meet market demand and change.

Take, for example, our work with a leading global bank. Here, the client wanted to adopt real-time payments at scale across multiple emerging global markets. Their existing payment implementations and infrastructure were decades old and lacked the scale and flexibility they needed. A full cloud and microservices modernisation was required. Three past attempts had already failed when they finally reached out to us.

Given the complexity involved and the lack of a comprehensive internal understanding of the existing environments, we opted to adopt a Domain-Driven Design approach which builds software that accurately reflects and solves real-world problems, commencing with Event Storming (a collaborative workshop technique used to explore complex business domains and model business processes) to gain a comprehensive understanding of their business.  Given the complexity, duration, and breadth of impacts, we structured the team to mirror the functional organisation of the client, infusing practitioner leadership throughout. As a result, the real-time payments capability we developed was successfully rolled out to 18 markets over the subsequent 24 months.

This is merely one instance of a holistic business-led approach being executed with success with people and culture at the centre. Without the right culture in place, achieving significant financial impact becomes elusive. A  collaborative culture fosters improved retention rates, consequently reducing training durations and mitigating staff turnover, which ultimately enhances employee satisfaction.

Lessons Learnt and Future Trends

Incremental action lies at the core of our approach at Altimetrik. This philosophy extends to our hiring practices as well. We provide opportunities for learning and growth for all our employees, empowering our team to solve client challenges and deliver results. One challenge that all finance businesses need to address is the advent of AI, with many believing AI to be the most significant business revolution of our time.

When faced with such a momentous change, to transition successfully towards a digital business model, it is essential for it to be business-owned and led. By establishing a comprehensive framework where the business assumes ownership, we lay the groundwork for success. Operating in isolation is no longer feasible, especially in today’s business landscape. Existing complex, legacy and siloed environments necessitate breaking through these barriers, fostering an environment where all stakeholders work towards a shared vision.

This convergence of business, technology, and data is where effective outcomes are realised. It is important to acknowledge that new technologies will continually emerge, but the key lies in effectively implementing and integrating them to enhance client offerings. AI serves as a prime example of this evolution. Business culture must change, as the tools you use will.

The journey from a legacy business model to a dynamic, digitally empowered organisation is both essential and inevitable in today’s financial market landscape.

At Altimetrik, our philosophy is rooted deeply in the belief that technology should not only support but enhance our human capabilities, creating environments where innovation is not just encouraged but will flourish.

To become a true digital business requires a comprehensive cultural shift that places people at the centre. As we have seen with successful implementations across the banking and finance industry we work with, this people-centred approach does not just solve technical problems but also addresses the core needs of business adaptability and continuous improvement.

Looking ahead, the focus on AI and data-driven solutions will only intensify. However, these technologies must be used responsibly and effectively, with a clear understanding that the foundation of any successful digital business lies in solid data governance and a culture that values continuous learning and innovation.”
